With the Digital In/Justice Initiative, we aim to create a transdisciplinary network that brings together scholars, activists, artists, and civil society organizations to critically engage with digital technologies, infrastructures and practices. Rooted in the University of Bern’s Digitalization Strategy 2030 and initiated by a project group funded by the digitalization commission of the UniBE, the initiative investigates how data and AI both reproduce and resist structural inequalities.
We build on intersectional and transdisciplinary approaches to establish a network to rethink digital futures through the lens of digital justice—a concept that foregrounds the systemic impacts of racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of oppression embedded in digital technologies, infrastructures and practices. Our work aims not only to analyze injustices, but also to reimagine and shape more just, inclusive, and transformative digital worlds.
